Starting over with a clean slate...

It's probably happened to most of us... an earlier forum that didn't quite take off as expected and you KNEW was a huge flop yet you stayed with it for months with nothing ever happening...

That's what happened to J-Stump Forums. Only my host going out of business made me realize the sheer crappiness of my first forum.

My forum didn't have a specific topic, and I realize I did some other not-so-good things, like overMODding...

So I got a new host (and a domain! yay!) and am starting a forum for PHP lovers. I realized that's a great topic as PHP is very popular and I had suddenly found myself writing PHP mini-applications for friends before this all happened... I just hope this does better than my original!

And if you look at it forgive the subSilver: I haven't gotten around to customizing the skin yet.

I just wanted to mention that applets are Java. Scripts are PHP. "PHP Applets" sounds like you are mixing Java and PHP together.

You're right... I was thinking about "mini-applications" and that's what came out...

The first post has been edited.

I would suggest a new name. JStump doesn't scream php to me. Why not phplovers.net? or phpLoversForum.com??

Also IMO go with SMF or MyBB, much better than phpBB.

I know, it's left over from the old forums...

And it's not VB, it's phpBB! But I get your point.

Sorry , that was a typo .

And I see where the domain came from. All I am saying is I can't imagine saying to my friends "I know a great php site it is called JStump.com , but I guesse if you brand it, it could work well.

Well, good luck with the new project!

Hopefully this time you have a plan of sorts, very important as you've found out

I would suggest a new domain though...regardless of how attached you are to jstump.com, it's not very appealling from a visitor's perspective

I am fully aware of the domain issue. I'll soon try to get another one that is more suited to the forum, but my current host unfortunately requires the use of an existing domain.

(Last time I tried to move a phpBB forum it broke everything and it took me an hour on my phpMyAdmin to fix it! I hope this doesn't happen when I get the new domain! This time I'll change the settings before I move the files...)

And I thought this thread would be more about failed forums than my new forum.
