What I would do is visit some competing forums and get some ideas from them on what categories they are using. You should modify the wording some as you don't want to copy exactly what you see. But that would be a good start. If the forum is new and there aren't that many members, start off with only the categories you need. You can always add more later but it doesn't look good to have several areas with no posts.

I did check out your link and I like where you are going with this. The colors are great too - especially for a business forum. Good luck!

well still term Business includes lot of topics
right from starting business , financing, growing, managing, investing, processing, its a huge term to make topics on, thts where the confusion is, which one to be picked initially.

later on i can include most topics with increase in members and posts.

I think that you have actually done a good job so far with your sections. I think that's a good number of sections for a new forum, you just need to get some posts in there!

One section did confuse me a bit though, the "Suggestions & Help" section...is that for suggestions and help on business or on the actual forums there? If on business, I'm not sure you need the section...because it's basically like a general business category. If the section is for the forums themselves, you need to make that more clear and move it to the bottom of the category.

Other than that, I think the sections look good.

Those are good sections to start out with. When the time comes and one topic comes up alot add another forum for that topic.

I am starting a general marketing forum but also know lots of MLM people.

If you have a new forum and you know different groups of people can try and include them all and use one forum wiht different categories as long as they are reasonable close or will this confuse people?

lol
I have a general marketing forum, the main focus is online marketing.
If I also include MLM as a different section do you think this will detract from the main forum?

This is a good question.

MLM is one type of marketing that does not restrict itself to online or offline. I suggest making only a TOPIC on MLM and based on it's populatry (or lack) then move it to its seperate forum branch.
