 | Starting iPad forum from scratch in competitive space Just for fun I decided to launch a new forum in the highly competitive iPad and tablet PC space. We bought two domain names www.DiscussiPad.net and Pad Computer Forum on the day that Apple did the launch Jan. 27th, 1010. There are several forums already ranking for the term iPad forum and there are some huge mac and tablet forums that have very high PR. We will see how this goes- should be fun. We chose to lead with the PadComputerForum domain in order to embrace non-apple products as well. The DiscussiPad domain name is now just a referral page. I have done a little Twittering in order to get some traffic, but our work begins in earnest as we get closer to the iPad launch in 90 days. The key is to have momentum going into the big media frenzy and to try and ride that wave with some juicy coverage. We installed our CrowdReport CMS in order to give the site an editorial front-page without having to do anything more than publish good threads directly to the frontpage. We'll see how it goes as an experiment and I will keep doing updates here in order to share our findings, failures, and successes. Think of this as a captain's log for a new forum Ideas and backlinks welcome! This thread is as much about sharing trips and tricks for me to learn from, as well as hopefully a nice guide of what to do (or what not to do) that any new forum owner can benefit from. |

  | I know what its like starting a new forum from scratch. Apple tricked me twice, not a third time, first with the iPhone 3G then 3GS, i won't be buying the iPad  Goodluck with it

| Apple does whatever they want. I was talking about my iPad opinions to the editor of TrendSlate at a networking party and he emailed me a couple of days later inviting me to write up my views- so I did. |
