Yesterday Miner pointed out to me if I wanted to start a "Friendly" Community forums for people of india [Many sections pertaining to other stuff too] So it's not only limited to the people of India...

Well, I have some ideas:

• Discuss about stuff going around in India
• Life In India
• Affiliates
• Fashion
• Development
• Movies Section...To Discuss about movies
• Actors/Actresses
• Indian Culture
• Mostly a section for Popular Indian Channels
• Cricket

In the hack list ...Currently I am thinking of a PhotoGallery and an Article thingy...

So I don't want it to be limited to only this much...I want your suggestions, regarding what should I do to attract more public and make it as friendly as possible and which would make people keep visiting back...

Forum software...will mostly be vBulletin...as said by Miner...Well, Just waiting for his answer about it...

Now, there is somewhat of a problem. If you have a focus, or really anything clearly Indian before the board grows, people will see it as an Indian forum, causing non-Indians to avoid joining, and reminding Indians to return to the larger and already established India boards on the net. But, by the same token, without it you'll have nothing unique, making you just another general chat community, which translates to almost assured failure given the massive number of boards in that field, most of which are already established.

So what can I do to avoid that kind of thingy?

Well, you've got to fill a void in a niche market. For example, a forum for Indian Teens Living Abroad might be good.

Well as for the software we will get vB...

And i agree with gprime, i started a general discussing forums for indians 2 yrs back and it was unsuccess so after running it for 6months and spending about $1000 in adv, lack admin talent my efforts turned waste...

This time i learned a lot about forums we will analysis carefully and do it an success one...

Can I ask a silly question? Okay, well I will? Why use a misspelled domain? I understand that you already own it. But in this day and age, when you can get domains for $5, wouldn't it make sense to buy one that uses the accepted English spelling of India?

Indya.com is very famous portal in India and all Indian based names are taken already...
