At my forum we hide them as well. We would rather have our members think that what they see is what they get rather then having them worry about whats posted in the staff forum.

My Staff Safehouse is hidden as well as my Private Forums.
I also have two more forums that members need to apply to before being accepted. Seems to work out well for me. Certain staff and certain members have permissions set up according to what is set up by me.

I use to have it hidden but some members contacted me and asked me why the post count seemed off so I made the forums visible to all users but the posts are all private.
