| Member | Moderator Trials When you hire moderaotrs, do any of you put them on a sort of trial basis, where they have almost (if not all) of the powers of a mod, but if they don't do what you expect them to do within a certain amount of time they're back to regular members, and if they do meet your requirements they become a full-fledged mod? I'm possibly considering this at my forum when I have to hire mods. |

| Veteran ![]() | Like a probationary period? Not a bad idea, if the staff your considering are new to you. I've been lucky enough to know the people I chose as mods for years, so I havn't had to myself

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | No, never. They are elected by myself from the top members. If I decide to grant an user the mod title, then I don't need to worry anymore. They're up to the task and fast learners.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Never. When I'm looking for moderators, I look for members who are dedicated, friendly and/or helpful, and post daily. I'll then send those members a PM regarding a possible staff position, and if they accept, they're account will be upgraded, no questions asked. Running them through a "trial" is not necessary. | Forum Addict ![]() | Nope, when i choose my moderators i look for people i can trust, friendly and professional at moderating. i dont mind having moderators that are in their teens (like myself) because teens seem to have more time then the older members. But nah, i don't put them through a trial or coarse. |

| Rookie | I don't myself, any moderator I choose has been a member for a long time and has shown trustworthiness and helpfulness around the forum. I also tend to know them quite well before I give them moderator status. The reason I dislike trial periods is that if you say they're 'on trial/probation' they will act well and good for that period and then there is the chance that they will stop doing as they do after their trial. |

| Member | I won't put them on a probationary period and tell them about it. If you tell them that they're on probation for 60 days (for example) then they'll be the perfect moderator for 60 days..after that, not so much.
