Staffing Issues

Well, recently I've noticed some problems with the people on my forum's staff. They don't come online, and if they do, they don't post.

I have two administrators in addition to myself, both were from merges from other sites, so I saw no problem with adding them as staff members. But, it seems that they never visit. I trust one of them more than the other, he's been with RCTgo a lot longer than the other, and I'm more willing to keep him on the staff than the other...

The first administrator was online about 5 days ago, but I don't think he ever posted at that time... only a brief look, I'd guess. The second administrator, I've already bumped down to Super Mod for the time being, but still with admin access... and he hasn't been on in nearly two months. I've seen him online in MSN and things, but not on my forums.

I'm thinking of emailing them to see what's going on, but I'm really unsure of what to do - I don't want to sound mean or anything like that, because I know life can take over, but I just think they should tell me something, letting me know that they won't be on for a while or something like that.

Like I said... I don't want them to get angry or anything, because the first admin has really helped me out a lot with decisions on what to do (he's been around for more than a year, all the way back when we were using InvisionFree)... but the second, all I've really benefited from him is
downloads from his old site that I haven't even added yet (I've been too busy to be able to get into RCT3 and do what I need to do with them).

Anyone have any advice on what I could do?

I would definitely contact them. Maybe try asking what's going on, rather then why they're not there. Something like "I was just wondering if somethings wrong, we haven't seen you around the forums lately". Something passive, you know? As long as you don't make it sound like your hounding them, but rather just asking them how things are going. Who knows, maybe something has happened with a few of them.

Definately make an attempt to contact them. Just tell them that you want to touch base with them, making sure that everything's alright, etc. I wouldn't mention anything about visiting the forums at first (or they're administrative duties), because that could get them a little upset.

Good luck!

Definatly contact them over the it all. Even if you just say you want to check everything is alright with them, as they hadn't been around lately,

Just e-mail or instant message them and ask them if something has come up and if they're doing alright because you haven't seen them online for a while. If they say everything's ok or try to avoid the questions then you need to be a little stern with them and tell them that they need to be active if they want to continue serving on staff, and if they're going to be away for a while then they need to let you know.

That's how I would do it.

I absolutely agree with the passive approach. Sometimes things happen, and there's perfectly logical explanations which are usually overlooked.

Just shoot 'em a quick email, or even have a chat with them over MSN.

I would also contact them in private, let them know what's going on, and ask if they can become more active again. If they don't start becoming active again, follow up with another contact...eventually, if nothing happens, you may be forced to demote them. An inactive moderator is no better than no moderator at all.

There is also some good discussion on this issue in this thread

I would also contat them in private, ask them if they would like to remain on the team. Otherwise - move on, their are other people who would help your site.

I've confronted one of them (the second one) over MSN, and he has really moved on from RCT3. I decided to make him a "VIMember," but is still as a staff member. I did this because I didn't want to have him as a technical staff member if he wasn't even going to visit or post or anything.

The other I emailed about two weeks ago, and he visited briefly, but said nothing, so I'm going to email him again...

Everything is pretty much "fixed up" now... The one staff member replied saying he's just been busy with all sorts of things, but should be able to get on more soon... Thanks for everyone's suggestions, though.
