5 Things Staff Should Know?

Those of you who have active forums, successfull forums, or generally have experience running forums....

What are the top 5 things you want your staff to know right off the bat?

here are mine:

* Know how to use the moderator functions
* Have people skills
* How to spot infractions
* Good Grammar & Spelling
* Doesn't gripe at their duties

What are yours?

Strive to promote
Do it for free

Should get on with the other members
And should be knowledgeable about the subject

1: Know the control panels well.
2: People skills, and be able to get along with a wide variety of people.
3: Good Spelling & Grammar
4: Know the difference between when a ban or a just a warning is in order
5: Know what to do in a delicate situation if a person of higher rank is not about. (applies to moderator)

1) How I like my coffee (if remote staff then skip to number 2)
2) How to engage people in dialogue
3) How to handle a problem situation with both swiftness and grace
4) Have the skills or at least aptitude to understand available tools at their disposal

In no particular order

1) Forum knowledge and experience
2) Able to handle authority (ie - not go power mad)
3) Act responsibly and professionally
4) Visit and contribute regularly
5) A sense of humor

Have patience
Be articulate, good spelling, good grammer
Be active
Be impersonal, warn friends, strangers and enemies alike when they are doing wrong
Handle angry or frustrated members without themselves becoming angry

1. The ability to click and interact with the community.
2. The ability to effectively implement the rules when appropriate without applying a biased point of view.
3. The ability to demonstrate understanding & patience, particularly towards newer members.
4. The 'desire' to be an active member & moderator. Nothings worse than a moderator that's there because they have to be.
5. And finally, a professional attitude.
