I think that just a little PM saying what you think may actually help. Demoting him, could cause a big problem. In such a situation i think you should take care with it.

It’s better to be called an asshole then be referred to as the “nice guy”. It’s just like school, if you don’t stand your ground and let even one person walk all over you, the crowd will follow and you will soon become the individual that every one bullies.

Having said that, there is no need to go all guns blazing. Simply talk to the person regarding the issues and clearly mention that you are not pleased with it and this is your board now. So it’s either your way or the highway.

At the same time scale down his admin power so much that he has only rights assigned to the moderator (not even supermod), ensure that he can only soft delete topics and posts and cannot make any announcements. Let his Admin title remain, after this he would understand in a clear cut manner that you will not tolerate his rude behavior, if he still doesn’t listens, then simply ban him.

That is quite a terrible situation and I had something similar happen on my other site that went down. I had to remove an Asst. Admin. and to this day we no longer speak it went down very badly I am saddened to say. But now looking back it was the best thing for my site. Less stress, less drama and everyone was glad to see him go. Sometimes you have to be tough and stick to your decisions, you may make enemies along the way but as long as you are true to yourself and are able to live with your decisions then that should be enough, it was for me.

Well, it's like this...you have two choices

1) Do something about it
2) Don't do anything about it and continue having these problems

Nobody enjoys demoting people...nobody enjoys confrontation (for the most part)...but if you don't do these things when necessary, your forums are doomed. You have got to at the very least talk to this guy and let him know how you're feeling. Let him know what must change, and let him know what will happen if it doesn't (demotion, or worse). If he doesn't change, then follow-up on your warning. Demote or ban him.

You definitely need to confront him about this. If you think he can change maybe tell him if he doesn't clean up his act he'll be demoted, and if you think he'll never change than I would demote him right off the bat. Its not fun but it must be done.
