Do you let your moderators ban?

Do you allow your moderators to suspend/ban member's accounts? Why or why not? And if they are allowed to, any special provisions that are in place to regulate this?

No I don't. Only myself and the other co-owner are allowed to do this because we have some staff members that would be way too ban happy

I don't on my forums, but then again I also don't have any mods. If I did have mods and I knew I could trust them I would probably allow them too. I also want to point out that I do have the power to ban here.

I let mine ban, however, it can be no longer than 1 month maximum, and any ban longer than 2 weeks needs the consultation of an administrator. Also, an extensive ban report must be filed in the designated area of the staff center.

I let them ban because they need to be able to put a stop to someone's behavior when I'm not around. Also, you wouldn't send a police officer out on patrol without a pair of handcuffs and citations would ya? If moderators don't have any powers like that, they wouldn't be taken as seriously.

no.. only our admins ban people. If it is a spammer or such, forum staff ( global mods) can... mods do not. The board members do not know who has what power, so it doesn't effect the way they are treated.

Not ban exactly... they can give warnings, which have so many points. So if they need to ban a spammer for example, they would have to give so many warnings in order to reached a banned status, if that makes sense.

Yep, I think that all moderators should have the power to ban...If you can't trust them to make this decision, then why are they moderators? If they get a little too "ban happy", then you need to sit down and talk to them.

I'd hate for my forums to ever be in the position where a member is running rampant in the forums but only a moderator is there and he/she cannot ban the member

So of course, all moderators here have the power to ban (watch out!! )

I trust my staff 100% and they do have the authority to ban if deemed necessary and I'm not around. For the most part, they just ban for 1 day and then they create topic of discussion in the staff forum regarding the member. We'll decide if that member needs a more permanent ban.
