Its basically a chat program, it stands for internet relay chat. The client many users use is mIRC - An Internet Relay Chat program theres probably more info there. There are many different servers and within those servers are many more channels to chat in. You can also do stuff like transfer files over IRC.

I think that FlashChat is a lot easier from the administration side, no need to worry about ChanOps and NickServs etc

Tryed TeamSpeak? I know its not a blog type conference, but its good if you can set up a server, free software, doesnt need much, its live chat, alot of Game Sites/Clans use it to chat while in game.

How can you have a staff meeting if your admins work unsual hours and you cannot be online at the same time?

If you want to discuss ideas etc, why not just use an admin forum on your own site and they post when they come online.
