How do I find moderators for my forums???

I run several forums and it is becoming increasingly difficult to moderate all of them.
I am looking for moderators to help me. I can't pay anybody to do the job.
If there is anyone interested in helping, please let me know.
Otherwise, do you guys have any ideas on how I can find unpaid moderators?

You could start by making a separate group that your moderators could belong to. Give them some sort of privilege, a special badge, a different colored username, etc. Those are just the basic things.

What are the requirements you want to have in place for your moderators? How will you pick the best from the rest?

Your best bet would be to choose deserving members from the community itself, rather than bringing moderators from outside.

I agree, I try not to look outside my community if possible. If you can't find anyone in your forums that would be suitable then maybe post in forums like here, sitepoint, dp, etc.

Definitely ask those people who are great members as they will do a better job than someone you pay. They will be excited about the community and will do what they can to help it grow!

Firstly, you don't need moderators right off the bat. If I can manage everything on my own, I don't have moderators to start with. I choose them based on how often they post, if they can debate things while keeping civil as well as not demeaning to other members. You want someone who is on there a lot anyways as it won't be any added work if they're already on there a lot.

My general time line is 1 moderator for every 100 to 500 members (depending on post count from members)

There's already been some good advice here in this thread...there's also a good article here that you would probably be interested in reading.

I'm interested in seeing how your situation has changed since you last asked this question. Have you found any moderators and if so, what criteria did you use?

Agree 100% It's always better to hire within. They already know how things go, and they've already shown an interest in the site and whatever topic it is. Experience isn't a major concern to me personally, it's more that they understand the community and how things work. Bringing people from outside that can cause all kinds of policy confusion and whatnot.

Definitely second this, as they have been with you a while, and see how you do things.
