Forum partner gone mad!

WOW i had a close call last night my ex forum partner started saying stuff to me acting dead weird and started calling my all the names under the sun so i just told him to f*** off and leave me alone till tomorrow so i blocked him and i thought that was it, but oh was i wrong i started getting DB errors and thought dam hes deleted the forum so i went to FTP and all files there so i went to my DB's and checked them all still there so i sat there rattling my brain trying to think what it could be then i scowled down and realised he had only deleted the user so i was so happy that was one close call!

Anyone else experienced something similiar?

The joke was on this short sighted saboteur, because it took me all of fifteen minutes to simply re-upload a recently backed up database, and thus restoring most of my forum's content. The damage was minimal.

When you only have one primary Administrator, yourself, there is little a Mod, SuperMod, or even sub-Administrator can do to damage your forum, as long as you maintain scrupulous backups of your database.

You're young. You have many more bizarre and incredible experiences ahead of you as a Forum Administrator -believe me...lol
Don't let it discourage you.

Thats really bad news, was he a friend in real life?

I don't know if it is just me but I wouldn't trust someone as much if I just met them on the web. I would only give them database and FTP access if I really trusted them.

This sounds like something that happened to a webmaster forum called Betlik (I think).

An S Mod delete all the posts, it was a very active forum and the backup was over 1 week old.

It was also had a points system so some people lost $100s in failed points exchanges etc.

He didn't have any of that. He just deleted threads manually on the Forum itself. Like I said; His efforts towards the forum's destruction were rather unsophisticated and in vain.

Let's face it. How many of us actually know each other in any other than a cyber context? Some degree of blind trust is necessary if you are going to give Mod or sub-Admin privileges on your site.

You seem like a fine fellow, but in person you might be one of those terrifying Scottish soccer hooligans we're always hearing about...lol
Give my best to Sir William.

Cheers!

Lolz you mean like this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/5101184.st

Anyway back to the point, yeah I agree with you about the blind trust, while in this case the mods efforts were a waste of time sometimes they might not be.

If you give an s mod or co admin ftp access and sql access he/she could easily delete everything. I would never trust people I found online the same amount as people I know in real life, they could be anyone

It's very hard to trust someone you've never physically met. But I've done it many times. The older you are, the easier it gets to get a feeling about someone by their posts.

Sometimes older members don't want to get involved with teenagers because there is a bias against those who don't have business sense. I understand that and still work with teens, knowing I may have an uphill battle when I have to explain the dynamics of being honest and playing by the rules.

I have been given the virtual keys to cPanels and have NEVER done anything that would negatively impact my new partner(s).

Me (ex) admin gave all my server info out to someone who then went and wiped it clean on me. Then the (ex) admin claimed he had no idea what happened for weeks, then I found out otherwise..

I late liars..

But he did me a favour since I now own everything related to my site. He held my domain name hostage for awhile til he got his ex off my site but all is good now.

He's a psycho!
