All very good ways indeed - on my site we do things simularly to here.

On my sites, we simply have all those interested members apply for the job. We then sort through the applications based on their applications and create a short list - then getting the applicants to complete a number of tasks which reflect their ability to perform in the job - then make our decision.

We always watch the membership for up and comers though - and we do indeed keep logs of any 'severe' infractions so that we can quickly look somebody up when they apply.

i always see who has been helping out the most already and promote from within. You always gotta ask in private if they are interested first or risk looking stupid if they say no in a public forum
