Paid Moderators?

What are your opinions on paid moderators? DO you think they are a good idea? Or a waste of time?

I would never pay someone to moderate my forums, you can always find someone to moderatore your forums for free.

I think there is always the belief as well that the moderator should be motivated by the forum's content, as compared to the money they may get for the job.

Waste of money more like. I think you can usually find people who are dedicated enough inside your community to be a volunteer moderator.

Yeah, I usually wait and find active members within my community and choose them. I think also depends on whether the administrator can finance something like this.

But little rewards are a nice idea as a thank you.

I've recently set up a cafe press store with the site's logo on merchandise - I told the moderators to pick a t-shirt and badge or fridge magnet and let me know their addresses and t-shirt sizes) I think that it's a good idea as a thankyou for their hard work.

I guess so, but I would introduce something like that after a period of time with the moderators. Possibly you could have bands for rewards., If you post this much you will get such a reward etc,

we get the mods on abadss.com new satellite receivers. They provide support for them and we get them new ones through deals with the manufacturers.

That is a good way, because then their rewards directly help the forum. Clever...
