Moderation Style, what's yours?

This question is asked alot and it differs from admin to admin (Or moderator to moderator). How do you moderate? Do you let things go on the line; or stop anything that gets even a little out-of-hand?

I will only moderate things that would prove inconvenient or embarassing to either the members or the staff, small mistakes will mostly go un-managed because their small and won't make any effect on the forum if their changed.

It depends, I had a member that kept flaming and trolling. Me and my moderators really had to check every post he made. Otherwise I just let things go their own way.

Generally, I move posts, split and merge threads, ect only. I avoid locking and deleting threads if possible, and same goes with posts.

I have an odd outlook on things so what some find spammage on a site or irritating I generally find funny ... I like to toy with people who come to my site and spam and have been known to send them "crying" never to be seen again... serious moderation, well I'm all for people being able to express themselves without fear of censorship, but there has to be a line drawn as to what is acceptable and what isn't. I usually make sure I have a little area called the Boxing Ring or something where I send members too if they start getting overly nasty with each other. What that entails is the two (or however many) members who are involved in the flame war, for example, get restricted to this one forum and receive a pm explaining that until they've thrashed out their differences with the other people involved then they will not be able to participate in any other area on the site.... it's amazing how quickly people become reasonable

I tend to let things drift along unless it's looking like it's really going to get out of hand. As in the past, members have been warned if they become offensive. I don't particularly mind spamming as long as it's within the desginated threads. I'm not too tough on members as I believe that people should have the freedom of speech.

@ members who own a forum do you class a "LOL" as spam or a smiley for a reply to a post?.

I let them do that. As long as they don't do it all the time I don't mind. But the odd ocassional time then I don't mind.

Depends where it is.

Example: This site

I'd see it as spam in...The Thinking Tank
But wouldn't in...General Chat
