What do you do with members that don't follow the rules? Do you PM and warn them? Do you ban them? Do you give them a certain number of warnings then ban them? Or do you have other methods?

I had to ban 4 members in the past 3 days... they were all a group.. clique, if you will. And have been stirring up trouble behind the scenes for a while. It all came to a head on Monday. When there were threats of hacking my site, topped by threats of physical violence against me and my son........... that did it.

I usually add to their warning points or PM them...

If it gets too serious a temp. ban...

I mostly don't perm. ban members.

I usually ban with extreme predujice after just one vocal and public warning.

Well, my new board will have only three rules:

1) Nothing illegal (kiddie porn, warez, ect)
2) No anti-semetism
3) No ninja posting

#1 would be an instant permaban or Miserable User, IP possibly included.
#2 would depend on the seriousness of the offense and the original intent, though most likely a permaban or Miserable User status.
#3 would also depend, since some sites do that extreme leech protection which most people don't know about until its posted. But if it were intentional, I'd probably move them to a restricted access group whose posts were queued, couldn't use the add-ons, ect.

I warn and send a PM telling EXACTLY what was wrong. If the member ignores, replies with a bad attitude or doesn't change his ways I might think about a ban. I ban permanently too.

Suppose the General Chat section I posed a thread like "US Declares War on China" knowing it would grab attention and get people to read it. But, rather than posting that which the title would suggest, I post the Daniel Pearl beheading video.
