Question What kind of admin are you?

What kind of admin are you?

We all know there's different types of admins running communities, some a friendly, omniscient, detached, fully participant, enthusiastic, business orientated etc

How would you describe yourself as an admin?

I'd call myself, approachable, helpful, friendly but firm when needed.

Friendly - Completely approachable and just a down-home sort of fella.
Helpful - I am ALWAYS open to questions. Thats what I am there for, help.
Stubborn - But not to the point where I let my own ego blind me.

And if I can stroke my own ego... Experienced... I have been doing online/admin type of things since the very early 90's when BBS' like WWIV and Wildcat ruled and were ran off a 486, a dial-up connection and DOS.

I like to work in the background and have a partner be sort of the community face, not because I don't like being involved with the community but mostly because I don't have the time to while coding and making the skins for the forum.

Do you think some people do view running a forum as a business as a negative?

Personally it's a sign of enthusiasm, dedication and long term commitment.. all positives in my book

Running things 'professionally' e.g. not acting immaturely etc is a good idea. But I hate the idea of running things like a business.

Running things like a business means very often advertising for example. Also a lot of 'the person who pays the bills can do whatever they want'.

After which these points can justify any sorts of rules, bannings, whatever, without any real personal responsibility.
