How to select a Staff?

I've observed that most Admins choose their staff of mods usually frm the people they know personally.. But wht if there is no such person in one's circle who is that much technical aur intrested in such stuff...Now what should and admin do?? manage the community by him/her self until he find some trustworthy people among the members?? or something else?

Choose them wisely
Research them, google their usernames.. find out how they conduct themselves elsewhere... afterall these are your representitives around the net. Set a trial period and write up an 'expectations' list to see if they agree from the offset.

I agree with you shellspear. I have a set of rules and regulations for staff and I send it to them and go over it with them before they are added on as a mod to make sure they agree to it before I put them on staff.

Good point shellspeare, I have had a google search for usernames prevent me from making mistakes a couple times in the past.

And no matter how badly you need help, dont add someone without being as sure as possible they are willing and able to take on the position. Otherwise, you may just increase your workload.

Thanks guyz.. That wuz exactly wht i wuz afraid of abt trusting people... If i follow this method then it means that I will have to handle the board entirely on my own for the initial period... unless i find someone responsible...

It's far better to work harder alone than end up with a team thats unloyal, dishonest, bias and unruly. Sit back and make sure every decision is for the good of your community.

You set the standard and expectations and you need a team that can match you in this. Any lesser will bring you and your community down.

Preferably you should know them personally. This may make some people mad... but there is no rule saying a user can't get to know an admin!

Give them a test, and I don't mean like “what does that button do?”, I mean like “Little Susy flamed Jon, what EXACTLY do you do?”.

Of course talk is cheap, so I'd make the a mod on a less important board before making them an admin or anything.

And make sure you pick people that think like you. Better you have admins that agree and maybe make a few people mad then ones that fight and start a civil war.
