How to move smf to another folder?

I had initially installed smf into forums directory, however now I want to move it to root director of the site.

How do I do it or would I have to reinstall smf?

The simplest solution would be to reinstall SMF in the root directory with the same DB details.

But wouldn't that overwrite the existing db tables or create different ones?

The simplest way is to move all the files, then download and run the repair_settings.php tool from the simple machines download page.

No. It will only refresh what's NOT there already, if anything is missing.

But you can also use Ben's method if you want.

I recommend Ben's method, it's by far the easiest. When you move SMF from one directory to the other, the only issue is when it makes references to directories and files that no longer exist, such as looking in the wrong place for the PHP include files, themes, etc.

You can edit Settings.php manually, of course, but Ben's tool will do it for you.
