Is SMF really any good?

I'm a VB fanboy and proud of it. All the forums I have ever out together in m tme have been VB forums. Now I find myself in a position where I can't really justify using VB and I look to an alternative.

SMF. Hmm.

Is it any good? I mean, the "feel" of VB is total quality IMO and I want something that is going to give me a similar feeling.

This is for a new forum that will be associated with this: Aliens: Colonial Marines

I don't think SMF is good. You may take a look at mybb. I think it better.

I would personally say MyBB is much better than SMF.
That is until SMF 2.0, which is looking pretty dandy and I reckon just might out do MyBB 1.4.x

I used SMF for quite a while, but I got bored of it and wanted to to use vB. I think vB is better, but yes SMF 2.0 does look quite nice. MyBB 1.4 is also nice, although I haven't properly tested it as of yet.

I think you should wait a while for SMF 2.0 and then make any changes, because then you can directly compare between SMF and MyBB

I guess it depends on what you are looking for, if youve been comfortable with vB before then it will be a great change when you try SMF because its features are not like vB specially the layout. For me i choose SMF because almost all of my users are using their mobile phone and SMF has a Mobile version of it by default second its free. I also like vB much but right now we do not have the money to buy a license...

I use SMF on two of my forums and im really happy with it.
You can get some really nice templates for free + SMF is easy to use.

I have used SMF for years. I am not a huge fan of it from the theme standpoint. Not many good themes out there though if you have some basic ability in that area it is good. I like the admin section of SMF and how it works overall, it's just the themes that turn me off.

I have experience with SMF, myBB, and vB and I like SMF so far the best.
