This month Forum of the Month goes to Talk Budgies. What is a budgie you might ask? The AF staff learned that it is a parakeet. You know you have a great niche when some haven't even heard of your topic and you can still have a forum as successful as Talk Budgies.

Talk Budgies is one of the most creative forums the AF staff has come across. It's one thing to see a forum about a rare topic but its another when you see a forum about a word you've never even heard of. Most forum owners might be hard pressed in coming up with good and creative ideas for a forum of this nature but Talk Budgies has done well in this regard.

Its obvious that Talk Budgies is not aimed at a tech-savvy audience. So the forum does a good job of pointing users in the right direction and making things easy to use. Ease of use is important to this kind of forum and Talk Budgies design does well in this category. The design is also very soft and easy on the eyes.

The activity at Talk Budgies is astounding. To put it in perspective, the forum has been around for a shorter period than AF, and they are still more active than AF, in a niche much smaller than forums. Another thing to note is that the majority of the activity is in the on-topic forums which is rare, especially with a forum so large. Post quality is another strong point. Not many one-line responses and many great posts throughout the forums.

To add to this, Talk Budgies has great content outside of the forum. There is a great article section with over 30 articles, submitted by both the users and the staff. Talk Budgie also has several great modifications such as a gallery for user's budgie pictures, journals to write about your budgie, custom postbits, custom profile fields, and a custom welcome message. All of these add to what makes Talk Budgie such a great forum.

To top it off, Talk Budgie has a great staff. They are very personable with the members. They also do a great job of making new members feel welcome. Very helpful and post useful articles and advice in the forum.
