Wordpress as a CMS
I'm considering using Wordpress as a CMS because other forum "portals" are over used and not very design oriented. Good idea or bad idea?

Yes, using WordPress as a CMS is an absolutely fantastic idea. Not only is it easy to use, but it is loaded with features (some that you have to search for), and is extremely customizable. Sure, you could also try Joomla or Mambo, but they are WAY too bloated with features (many which are useless), and are just not as easy to use.

The look and feel of WordPress is just so clean + professional, especially when compared to the cramped UI of Joomla and Mambo.

If I used a CMS or homepage on my forum I would definitely use wordpress. I use it for my blog and I love it.

I am using it on one of my new site (gamersonlyforum) and I like it so for. SEO built in , easy posting , categories. I like it! Plus the pages are very easy to use.

Plus you can have a forum built in that uses the wordpress userbase. They have there own one which you'll find at BBPress this is pretty decent if your looking for an unblooted forum. There is also a plugin for wordpress xdforum (I don't have the link for that one in my head) which is also very good and un blooted. Both of these are pretty decent and can be integrated, although to be honest I'm going to be using IPB with WP for mine, but these are worth a look.

Wordpress is great for blogging, but as a CMS it doesn't work quite as well, IMO.

I'm using it at the root of a forum and I like it
I have feeds pulled off the forum to update the root all the time
