 |  I need help/Which one to choose? I am starting a forum these days , and I want to choose my software...For the time being I don't want any paid , I might upgrade to vB in the future though...anyway..I want a free one . My Primary thoughts where , SMF , phpBB and myBB (If you think another one is better , then tell it to me here...). I am a rookie in that so , I would appreciate some advice from you. What is the best as far as :

    | Welcome to AF! Those are some good choices for free scripts. I don't like SMF. It's too off from vBulletin, which is my strong suit. Before vb, I used IPB 1.3 (free) but it's been decommissioned. I don't know about myBB, so I suggest phpBB. Try getting one with a lot of hacks already installed. *trust me*

 | The only free script I have ever used is phpbb but I think if I were to start a board with a free script I would at least check out MyBB. I like RM's idea for getting a hacked phpbb board though. The only problem with that is when phpbb3 comes out I doubt it will be able to upgrade (just guessing).

| Why not download all three and have a play with them and see which one you like best, alternatively play with the demos on www.opensourcecms.com

| I would have to go for PhpBB, it has great mods that you can use and it isnt really hard to install the mods, its just time consuming.

| Well you can always use the tool found here! http://www.adminfusion.com/demos.php I personally like MyBB, but there are not too many mods for it, so if you need a specific mod and it is not available you may have to wait a while or just make it yourself.

| Thanks a lot everyone. I will do some research and I will see....Personally , I like myBB, but I am also considering the lack of mods and themes , so I am truing to find out what to do ....Thanks again! Manos |

| I wouldn't recommend using SMF; phpBB or MyBB is the way to go! MyBB offers an easier experience but phpBB offers more customization.
