[News] Meetro And AOL Quietly Developing New Forum Products

Quote:
...Now we’re hearing a rumor that the Meetro team is quietly building a new product - an easy “one-click” way of creating new forum on the fly. Instant messaging and forums are very similar businesses...

...AOL is also rumored to be releasing a new forum product in the Fall. We’re hearing that the product was handed over to the Userplane team after some development difficulties...

I am not sure how much of an impact it would make on the forum builders/admin community. vB is already holding a strong ground and it might turn out to be difficult for these ventures to lay siege on it.

I doubt it will add up to anything that will challenge the big time forum software vendors like vBulletin. Especially since AOL is doing it. They'll screw it up somehow.

It'll probably be more of a social network than a forum. I doubt vB is very worried.

Forums designed by AOL, come on the only people using their software are the elderly and the hanger ons. They might try to cash in on the forum/community driven website ala Myspace and facebook.

I'll tell you I'm not worried the bit least - AOL was a major faliure and I don't see anything better coming out of those offices.

I would not call AOL a failure, during the 1990's the AOL network was pretty massive. However AOL's time has passed now, and it is time for them to quietly go away.

True - when Dial up was all the rage - but they've failed to offer a competitive service and I don't see them doing it any better with anything else.

They may reinvent the wheel nicely, but it'll either become bloated with crap or just left to rot, if I know anything about AOL.
