Spending money/not Spending money doesn't mean you aren't serious about a forum, or dedicated to it at all. It just means you might not need some features or don't have the money to invest.

This is some thing I have experienced first hand while running my forum, which was previously using phpbb.

PhpBB is a high powered, fully scalable, and highly customizable Open Source bulletin board package (quote taken right from their web site). I found phpBB easy to install, stable and you can't argue with the price, it's free! There is a very active user community and it's easy to find add ons and customizations. If you haven't got much time, and want to see what the new phpbb3 can offer, just try it out on this host : free forum hosting

| Title: Lurker Join Date: May 2007 Posts: 12 Location: Detroit ![]() | Vbulletin!! I run phpBB and vbulletin boards, and while there may be a few features or looks that I like about phpBB2, Vbulletin has more control and options to make my life easier. The plug in system alone is gold to me. I have a demo board running with phpBB3 RC5, and though they added some nice features, I still feel like I'm fighting the software to do things. | ||||

I haven't tried the other forum software because I haven't had reason to - I find that vBulletin does everything I want in terms of performance and features etc plus their customer service have never failed me to date. I especially love their plugin system and their ACP amongst other things.
