Exclamation MySQL limit

My Tech guy has just pointed out that our current database is 93.5 mb and that our MySQL db is limited to 100 mb.

It seems strange to me that with 211 members and 50,000 posts, and after only being running for 8 months, we should be closing in on the upper limit. Is this 'normal', whatever normal is?

And, more to the point, what the hell can we do about about it? Our hosting package, with 1&1 gives us two MySQL's - upgrading won't help, we can get more MySQL's but the same 100 meg upper limit.

I'm clueless on MySQL, so its a bit of a worry

Can you pm a link of your host and maybe i can help in some way he may be pulling the wool over your eyeds due to a forum using his resources and want to offload you ive seen host pull tricks like this and being an ex host owner i know what they do.

Also i may be able to offer you some space with better mysql limit but first pm URL and see what i can find.

It may be if your site is loaded with mods and hacks also.

Hm.. 93MB seems about right, I'm at about 11,000 posts and nearing 20MB.

As for that 100MB limit.. Was there any mention of it when you paid for the hosting?

On their hosting page they plainly state that there is a 100mb limit on databases. You have 2 options.

1. You can ask the host if it possible to pay more for a bigger database size.
2. You have to find a new host and go through the very painful process of moving.

I never knew there was a limit til my site started crashing after I installed the ibproarcade hack. I copied and pasted the error in a post at vb.com and they told me what it was. I went to my host and asked them to raise the limit, which they did.
Now I'm getting ready to install the new eBux/eStore, and I bet they have to raise it again, lol

Thanks for the replies so far

The host is 1&1 and, Larry is correct to say that the web site does state a 100 mb limit. The problem is that we didn't realise at the time that this is an insufficient amount.

Is it usual for there to be a MySQL upper limit, and what would be considered reasonable. I need some ammo for when I contact 1&1 to ask for a larger limit. Failing that, we'll have to move...arrgghhh.

With 1&1 i think you will run into problems especcially running a forum. Try Searching for some reviews on them.

Also contact there support ask for mysql to be upgraded.
forums do tend to use a lot of mysql space but 100 mb can be used easily once theres hacks installed. So i would suggest getting them to upgrade or move on.
