Yuku...professional?

Hey there everybody, I'm Austin, and I've been sneaking about this place for a little while now trying to pick up tidbits of gold from those more in the 'know' than I am about website and forum running from the owner's side.

I have a little over a year and a half experience as a moderator on a healthy forum of 20k members, but no experience as the 'boss-man' or anything quite as entrepreneurial as meets my current aspirations.

Now I realize that a few members (perhaps all) will look at this thread and immediately assume it ought to be in Introduction, but really this is not about myself as it is about a question that might seem stupid, and thus I felt it would be good to explain myself a little so not to look entirely out of the 'know.'

I've read so far that everyone prefers vB over the free programs like phpBB (which is what my partners and I have been playing around with), myBB (Brent Wilson AKA BamaStangGuy got me looking into that after reading his blog), and Invision (tried it, hate it). I believe we'll be going with vB, but I stumbled onto the Yuku site, and I haven't seen a thing about Yuku on here. Could it be a professional option considering their Gold Package deal?

I really like what I've read about vB 3.7, but so far it seems Yuku offers all the same things, and it would be cheaper initially. However, I'm looking for something that can work for a professional, income-producing website and forum community with a goal to rival deviantART's success in later years. I wonder if going with the less common Yuku may set us apart from most sites in a good way, but worry that it might set us apart seeming as a makeshift operation rather than unique.

Thanks for your advice and time!

~Austy

I have 2 vBbulletin boards and am really happy with the software and support so far. There are some great mods out there at vbulletin.org although I can't really speak for the other types of forum software.

Didnt Yuku evolve from EZboards?

I was a member on an EZboard site and once I logged in, I was logged in to any other EZboard sites I came across. I dont know if thats still true with Yuku because I havent logged into my account on the one site recently.

I just dont like being logged in to every site out there when I only register to join one site (just my opinion)

Go to vBulletin; no questions asked. As someone who doesn't yet own a license, you have no idea how many benefits there are to owning vBulletin. I wish I had went directly to vBulletin, instead of wasting my time with free software and free hosting.

vBulletin is no doubt, the best decision I ever made when I transformed my first forum from Website Tool Box format. There are so many great benefits to owning the license too like vbulletin.org which is one heck of a modification community

I'd overall say that vBulletin is great to use as a forum, plus its easy to modify and you don't need a whole lot of knowledge to run it either (the adminCP is simple)
