![]() | What made you switch? Hi Anyone that use vBulletin as their forum software. I have a question to ask and that is why did you choose to go with vBulletin instead of IPB? Please try to explain me in details the motive of your switch. I do nothing by you guys saying, because I like it. I am thinking whether to get IPB's license or vBulletin's ? Help me out Thanks in advance |

| Apprentice | Initially, I used phpBB. I was very happy with the software, until I had several modifications installed and the code got hard to edit manually. At that point, I found SMF, and was very happy with the 'automatic' modification installer. I stuck with SMF for quite a long time, until I was in a position AND the forum was in a position to switch to vBulletin. Now your main question, why did I move. Several reasons. vBulletin is the leading forum software out there. There is a huge host of plugins, themes and a whole lot of support available for the software. It has a huge userbase and is no longer JUST a piece of forum software. It has several extensions and each version is getting better each time. I find customising the software much easier and the plugin system is extremely useful and easy to use. You can easily make template edits and other optimisations. By saying all of this, I am not wanting to say IPB is rubbish. IPB is also a very good piece of software, and I think each of these two have their own advantages. In my opinion, IPB has a slightly more professional look and feel to it compared to vBulletin. Another key factor is what do you want? Do some research into the modifications and styles available and see what suits you the most. You must also pay attention to the cost of a license. There is a bit of information, feel free to ask more |

![]() | I went with IPB instead of vBulletin for my forum and I have never regreted that decision. I especially like IPB's blog system which is miles ahead of vBulletins in terms of features and such. In short: IPB is more modern has a few stable and good components such as a photo gallery and a blog system. Making new templates is easy. VB has loads of plugins and themes and has a larger community. Eventually it all comes down to what needs you have.
