I greatly prefer IPB. From the user end and admin. It's much more user friendly.

I have been using vBulletin for the past 24 months. Before that, I was a phpBB user. The reasons I made the switch were mainly the fact that phpBB would lag as soon as you installed ten or more modifications. I also hated having to download and re-upload the template files when installing modifications, or customizing and tweaking, which is something I like to do.

I also like the way most things can be altered from vBulletin's ACP, whereas I found myself doing SQL editing as well as download/upload editing (phrases ect).

I have used all 3 scripts. If you are a noobie a the forum development and don't want to have to deal with alot of "advanced" settings. I would go with the phpBB 2.0 version. Very easy to use and very basic. Now that phpBB 3.0 has reached RC2 its alot more advanced but still easy to use They even made skinning a lot easier as well via that admin CP which I see as an improvement.

For more advanced settings and more compatible plugins such as Gallery, Blogs, and their new Download Manager. I would go with IPB. very easy to setup skinning is a challenge if your just beginning but its stllk a very good script. Now with the new 2.3 version (Also was in the 2.2 version) The tabbed Acmin CP is a must in the site building aspect. you don't have to scroll in a left hand side panel to get to a feature you want to edit.

For its plugin system.(i.e. no hard coding of any kind unless its an arcade script) vBulletin is the system for you. This can also be a good noobie script as well seeing as adding in modifications is easy as uploading the files and running the product manager. or a simple plugin. I yet I have had any issues with vBulletin script wise their support is below average. if for some reason your script is stolen ether by someone you thought you could trust or a radnom guess at your login id number. they disallow support even if its not your fault the script is running on another board. This I find as a downfall to the vB Community.

So if I were to choose between the threeI would go with IPB. Tho I am currently looking to sale my vB License so I can go back to IPB I haven't had any luck seeing as IPB is the way to go

Going back and forth between forum software is not a good idea at all. You need to have a real good reason to change and then stick with one. The urls change every time and you loose valuable backlinks. Not to mention it'd annoy the hell out of me as a user of the board.

If you have a valid license, then why can't you get support for it?

Everytime I have tried to get support my account has been tagged for "no support" I guess its vB's way of "handling" the issue a piracy report hasn't even gotten the site shut down. I don't know whats taking them so long. I had plans for that license but now that its not active and Im not getting support for the otherone its just not going good for me.

I'm biased but I like WowBB. I have used PhpBB, IPB (probably 2nd favorite), vB (feel is over priced). WowBB has the easiest Administrative side I've seen. Editing the templates is very easy.

There are some functions I wish were included but I've modified the software to included all functions I need.
