Many people are currently wanting more and more features.

Shops, currencies, skins, etc.

However, I personally feel there are many features that are not necessary.

The code of PHPBB itself is so complicated to me that I don't know how to start at first.

Even now, I still get confused at times, after 2 years of modding.

What do you think?

yeah, i agree people are wanting more and more things put in but the reality is though most of the people dont want these features in but yet they are still being included which is then making it more complicated and just over the top. its like with CMS systems now i find....more and more systems are going down the PHP Nuke line and getting filled with crap just to say they have more features then the rest, big deal you have loads of features but can you let me add content in a simple easy way?

yeah agreed stuff needs to be added for it to evolve, but theres a line as to when it starts becoming over crowded with pointless features and i think alot of things nowadays are going more and more that way, which is disapointing really cause most of them are probably really good applications but just overcrowding it spoils them tremdously

Agree with you people today want many features in a forum software and i also agree about phpbb being confusing. IPB is the easiest to work with.

Yes.

There should be a phpbb lite where useless features are ripped away.

After all, it should also strive to be fast as well.

There are some BBs that have been created to be totaly simplistic (I.E. PunBB) however you can see how much of a difference in standards there are by just looking at the two. While PunBB looks a little more attractive than phpBB it does lack some features that you would expect from any BB software.

I happen to like the way phpBB is set up. There are plenty of forums that have way too many mods installed, but I think a lot of those are from people who got a pre-modded version. If a shop is going to increase forum activity (real activity and not spam), I wouldn't hesitate to install it. I usually look over any mod I install, though, and get rid of stuff I won't use.

Yes, i agree...if you realy do need the modification to "boost" your members and make your community more active, then go for it. However if you are doing it just because you can, you are more than likely to drive members away.

I think greater feature availablity is key in marketing a BBS. But to add too many features to the base software, thus turning it into bloatware is an issue. None of the major BBS have that issue though.

As to the initial comment, I quarell with it because of the software sited. That is, out of the box, phpBB is utter rubbish and requires a great deal of modding to make it have even minimal functionality.
