I seen some posts on other forums where someone is looking for a moderator. Most replies have something to do with the pay. I don't pay my moderators anything, but I was wondering how much a moderator would normally make for an average sized board.

I never pay the mods either, because the people who get paid are generally not interested in the topics discussed on the forums. However, some large boards may need them or any other incentive can be offered.

It really depends cos the free mods may not come on all the time while paid mods have to and they will do their job seriously

If the the "free mods" don't come on they will get taken off the staff in my opinion. There is always someone willing to do their job, some just need some convincing lol. Paid mods lol I'd never pay anyone. If I have to I'd run it all on my own before I'd pay someone.

That's what I would do too, darkand. All the moderators I have ever had have done the job because they asked me to, they really wanted to do it. If they didn't do their job well or anything, then I would simply remove them from the staff. There were always about 20 other people who would be eager to take their position.

Going back to the origional question, "how much a moderator would normally make for an average sized board".

I would have though its on a per-action basis, i.e $0.50 per post/thread moderated or something along those lines.

Yeah, but then you get mods editing posts all the time that probably don't need any editing.

Good point...i suppose it would quite a hard decision to decide on a basis of payment.

Maybe setting them some guidelines (ie "Only edit posts if they contain the following") would prevent them abusing the system.
