In your navigation, Just have Anchor text of Forum linking to forum.php. In vbadvanced, there is a setting I believe where you specify the name of your vbadvanced index page. Make sure that is set to index.php.

My main page changed urls a few times and never effected the rankings in a big enough way to warrant not changing it.. maybe just lucky.

I have never really been a fan either, but we have some new things happening and I wanted to change it up a little and have things "easier" to find. Let me ask you this is it possible to purchase another domain name and have the new domain as the portal with it linked to my forums?
