Question about vBadvanced

I am looking into the idea of adding a portal to my forum.

Now here is my question, my url lands on the forum itself and as you can see the “forum” is in my domain name.

How can I change this so I get the portal to be at demolitionforum.com? And have the forums has another page? And would it look funny if I had demolitionforum.com/forums?

Is this possible?

You can do that but I wouldn't recommend it. You will lose all backlinks to any of your forum threads when you change it due to you are changing your url structure. I was never really fond of portals anyway.

You rename index.php (vbulletin's) to forum.php, then name your portal index page to index.php. In your navigation, Just have Anchor text of Forum linking to forum.php. In vbadvanced, there is a setting I believe where you specify the name of your vbadvanced index page. Make sure that is set to index.php.

just know its a pita to use at times Its one of the best portals I have used, and if you play with it alot, can lose the "portal" look... but.. change styles, activate n deactivate modules etc alot and it gets PMS like..

My main page changed urls a few times and never effected the rankings in a big enough way to warrant not changing it.. maybe just lucky.

Didn't think about that.

I have never really been a fan either, but we have some new things happening and I wanted to change it up a little and have things "easier" to find.

Let me ask you this is it possible to purchase another domain name and have the new domain as the portal with it linked to my forums?

Hmm, well I'm not exactly sure, but if you set the root directory of the forum and the portal relative to each other you may be able to, like have the forum root directory under the portal directory, I'm not really sure if something like that would work or not.

Actually yeah now that I think about it I would be interested to learn if this is possible or not, because for my next forum there is a forums .com url that would be perfect, I was planning on just having it redirect but if this would work I would so it like that.

Cookies wont be the same across the domains. I don't know if you can change directories via php across domains as well.
