I'll be running weekly contests on my forums, this should be a good idea..
My forum is about directories, we'll try to offer featured links on our own directories, some free domain names, I believe it will get some new members. I'm also thinking of starting monthly contests too, with bigger prizes, like phpLD licenses, more features links on directories, huge list of over 500 directories and so on..

I think that weekly/monthly contests are great. I do want to suggest that you be very careful with yours as it is a posting contest. Be sure to create clear spamming rules and enforce them. Many posting contests will flop because the owner does not realize that people will do anything for free stuff...even if you tell them not to spam, they are still going to do it.

Track the contests (and statistics) as you go along to ensure that you are getting your money's worth. There's no sense in running a contest if your forum is not benefiting as much or more than you are giving out.

Thank's for the tip. I will make sure everyone will follow the rules, if there's one thing I hate, that is called spam!

Besides posting and refferal competitions, what other contests should I make.. I'm in need on an idea. I have to admit, I got a bit inspired from this forum, seeing the forum of the month competition, I decided to start: directory of the month..
