    You can probably use HTML in the welcome message, so just put
    Code:
    <img src="/yourimage.jpg" />
    Where you would normally type the message in.

    loco.m has a great forum that talks about optimizing vbulletin. You need to have a valid vb licence for his place.

    But even if you don't have vb, you can still benefit from this sage advice. All you gotta do is design a great welcome message in your favorite graphics program, and then save it as a jpeg.

    Then edit your templates. Where it allows you to change the welcome message, delete everything and just show the image.

    HTML Code:
    <img src="welcome.jpg" alt="welcome header" />
    You probably want it linked to your registration page, so just put anchor tags around it.

    HTML Code:
    <a href="register.php"><img src="welcome.jpg" alt="welcome header" /></a>

    Nice tutorial. Thanks for this. I was concerned from an SEO standpoint about all that extra text visivle to spiders.

    If you're worried specifically about SEO, you could easily use a conditional to limit the welcome/guest message to the forumhome, thus keeping the keywords in the welcome/guest message 'rich' and not over-spreading to non-related pages.

    Something such as:

    PHP Code:

    <if condition="THIS_SCRIPT == index">
    &
    nbsp;
    <else />
    welcome message bit
    </if>
    This, of course, would go within the template that you have the welcome/guest message residing in.
