The Digg Craze...success stories

If you have not heard of http://www.digg.com, you need to. This has become a huge phenomenon over the last few weeks for webmasters. It's a place where you can submit stories, articles, events, promotions, and what not for other users to read and then "digg" if they like it. The site gets an unusual amount of traffic and if you are lucky enough to get promoted to the first page, you are SURE to receive LOTS and I mean a LOT of visits. I personally have seen the effects of it indirectly...I had a few images of mine placed onto a page that was dugg and reached the front page. The bandwidth consumed by three images alone was 3 times the bandwidth I was using throughout an entire month...and this was only in a 2 day span.

Have you ever had success with digg as a forum admin, and if so, what did it? I've been drawing blanks as far as what to submit to digg which has the potential to become a success. I submitted 3 forum articles of mine a month or so ago without much success.

Also...there's another site almost identical to digg.com but not as big at http://www.shoutwire.com

I've tried submitting some diggs from my blog (not to a forum) and the impact hasn't been great. It's a bit of a kids toy, judging by the items that rank highly.

First off, I have never submitted a story, So I can not speak from personal experience. I have also heard that some people's forums have had an increase in bandwith and the such. But the main question that is are they getting new members or just lurkers?

Ryan you said you submitted some stories?, did anyone join?

If you write an article for your site why not submit it to digg, but if you are writing one just to get lurkers to your site is that worth it? Seems like it would be just "padding" your numbers.

just my .02 worth

No, we didnt get any new members...we did get visitors of course, quite a few of them, but no new members. I don't think it hurts, afterall, they are indeed visitors who saw the topic beforehand and then chose to check it out...it's not as if it is fake traffic.

I'm under the impression that if you have written an article or have something newsworthy, it is worth submitting to digg...but don't write stuff ONLY for digg...unless of course you have a great idea which is sure to be dugg quite a bit
