How much to spend on contests

How much do You average on a month for contests?

So far I've done

March $20 amazon gc for a post to win contest.

April "diamond earrings" for a 'hide the jewels' contest.

Then I have a game we're playing till June 30 2007 for a $100 Amazon GC.

I guess I am spending about $50 or so a month currently.

I don't spend anything anymore. I used to pay $10 a month for a gift card, but then I was lucky enough to attract some sponsers. You may want to try emailing various companies (ones that may want the free advertising) and see if you can get some donated prizes.

I was thinking of having one, for a new logo and giving out coffee mugs and tee shirts. I hope to keep it under 60 but after looking into it, I may do something else like gift things for chapters or some other online certificate.

Ann...

How did you approach those companies? I'm setting up a monthly contest during the NFL season and would love a sponsor, even emailed one but got no reply. Mind sharing that info?

Thanks!

I would advise against monthly contests. I think you're better off having maybe two contests a year with some really good prizes. As for the prices of those prizes, it all depends on how good you think the contest will turn out.

Never blindly throw money at your forum. Always anticipate exactly what whatever amount will do to benefit your forum. Consider extra traffic or activity that might boost your ad revenue and/or the overall value of the forum, and determine if it's worth it.
