Your advice

Here's the deal... a "competing" Black Donnellys site has been spamming the NBC boards and has been mildly successful in doing so.

I don't like spamming or forcefully advertising my site on other boards, yes, even big ones like NBC's. I like spreading the word, respectfully.

My thinking... I wouldn't want anyone doing it to me why do it to someone else?

So, here's my question... do you stoop that low if you see your site traffic regressing and their's progressing as a result of their spam campaign?

I don't know... just thinking out loud.

I don't go there. Can you report them to NBC's board admin to put their campaign to an end?

I think the bigger question is what happens to all of the sites if the show goes off the air or does not return for another season. NBC will close down their pages and message boards for the show when it is off their network. So maybe the goal is getting as many members as the site can now, in anticipation of this, and then trying to maintain these members and transfer then to another concept or something like that. Attrition on a site specific show, when that specific show goes off the air is probably pretty rapid, so having as many members as possible, if the goal is to try to keep them, is important. In your case, and knowing the show has not been renewed yet, and as a member of your site, I would recommend being as aggressive as they are being....

I wouldn't spam like that but I would make sure I was a member and have a link back to my site in my signature.

You could always contact the owners of the NBC board and ask if they'd consider linking to you (as you're obviously more respectful) and see what they say. I also run an official forum for a British actor and when companies have contacted me privately, rather than spamming, we have come to an agreement which has suited us both. Hopefully the same might work for you too especially if they can see how committed you are

Good luck!

I should. I will.

As for TVDinner, I don't like being aggressive in my advertising. Do unto others... right?

Joy - Yeah, I do have a link in my signature there.

I guess, but you are in a very unique situation with a show that may go away forever and not come back. That could greatly damage participation, so the situation may warrant a different tactic. I AGREE that spamming a site is not a good thing, but being professionally aggressive in certain situations may be warranted....

Honestly, with a new show, all the websites out there are new as well. Now is the time to be as aggressive as humanly possible with your recruitment, and that may even mean stooping to some dirty levels. Everyone will be scrambling for as many members to join them and remain loyal as they can get.

I completely agree, shameful advertising isn't good, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. If it works

I agree that you should not stoop that low to spamming the boards. You could be as successful by posting well-thought out posts on the nbc forums with a link in your signature.
