How do new forums get so many guests at once?
I mean, i saw this forum, actually it's dan the man's youtalksports. So, it opened up yesterday, and it's most online members are 34 or something. But, i have been opened around 2 weeks, and mine is only 14.
How does this happen?

Well I don't know the specific case but one way to get a lot of guests on at one time is to submit articles to digg, even if you don't get a lot of votes you'll still get a good amount of guests.

I'd say from Signature Links, there are alot of clicks made from just signatures (if you post regulary). If you make it attractive and post alot (in different forums) then it won't be hard to get quite alot of guests to your site/forum.

Yep, there are definitely quite a few ways to do this...and a high number of guests doesn't necessarily mean that your forums have good content or are going somewhere. The guests could be fake or not even interested in the forums.

Also I bet most of those guests are SE spiders. We have 25-50 spiders on our site all day every day.

Well, some new forums have guests, which are spiders - and some have a lot of guests on because they could have started to advertise early.

New forums get lots of guests because the forum owner has 300-1000 contacts on MSN. At least that's how it useally is on anime forums.

Why Am I awake at 5:00 am EST

If a site has registered most users online at 90. It is very possible that 80 of those users were indeed yahoo spiders. I once had a new forum registering 70+ 'most users online' - when I only had 8 actual members...lol I had to explain that I wasn't trying to put over a fast one -on more than one occasion.

Sometimes a forum is absolutely bombarded with yahoo spiders. Incidentally, Google only sends one bot to crawl the entire site, while yahoo sends a spider to record each instance of new forum content; new post,thread title etc.

Some people seem to frown on the presence of a multitude of search engine crawlers visiting their sites. I rejoice and celebrate the arrival of each and every spider, google and msn bot. It means the site is indexing well. And I think most of us understand that that is indeed, a very good thing.
