Did you hear about the Credit Crunch?

If you have, did you try to google for more information?
Did you find my site?

I'm asking because over a year ago I saw the Credit Crunch coming and managed to find the domain name, so... snapped it up. Was hopping to get a really vibrant community going.

Even when the issue is a global one and has had a lot of air time the number of people visiting me has gone up, but not in a ground breaking way.

I think this is proof that even if your website "name" is branded about the media, people just won't run to google and tap it in. Even if you are the 1st or 2nd result on the search term it really means nothing. You need something more.

My marketing skills I think are very poor.

Am a bit disheartened.

I've also put together a plug-in for Invision Power Board, a shop. Could not find one out there... so did this myself, am thinking of selling licences eventually. It took a little work to do... Some other communities may as well benefit from this type of plug in, cause my one hasn't grown.

Do you think there is a market for this type of plug in?

Sounds to me like you are relying solely on search engines to drive your site, and for most people, that's not going to work.

Last time you brought this up (ranking well for credit crunch), I said something, and I'll say it again - Yes, you rank well for "credit crunch", but not many people search for that term.

Go to overture and put this term into their search. You'll only get 47 for that term...Now, compare that to the term vbulletin - you get 5212 there....Compare it to "credit card", where you get 797,914. Sure, those words are obviously going to be hard to rank for...but I'm just pointing out that the term "credit crunch" is not going to bring in huge amounts of traffic for you regardless of how high you rank.

And just as you've pointed out - Even if you rank well for a certain term, if your site doesn't offer anything unique or of value for its visitors, then you'll get nothing out of that traffic.

I know. Well I know and belive that now.

The shop area is very new, launched it about a week ago. The new 'Home' page uses GEEKLOG, and will be putting up some links.

On the bright side of things I have been referenced to by another site on the subject.

This following article is about a british bank called northen rock, scroll right down to the bottom.

SimpliNews: Credit Crunch

That made my day, found it in my logs.

My logs also show IP addresses of UK news coorporations, probably journalists looking for info. But, there not really a loyal bunch, there there just for any facts they can find.

Well generally speaking a couple of things that deter me right off the bat are the homepage design and the domain. First off the home page is a little on the boring side, too much white, plus it shows a scroll bar on the bottom of the page for me and it just seems a bit hard to read the news, it just doesn't hold my attention. The next thing is the domain , while it is a great domain you are really limiting your self to the UK by using it, also the fact that you say "The UK Forum" on your logo would be a reason for me to click out if I was a US citizen.
