How do you "revive" a forum??

How do you "revive" a forum which is almost dead? If it has almost a thousand members and 2000threads but it is almost dead..like 2days per new thread?

Promote it

Try and bring back current inactive members by implementing some related and interesting forum mods and send a mass email about your new additions

First get a little activity going by posting yourself and getting others to do it...Once the forums *look* active again, send out an email too all of the members saying that the forums lost activity but are back. Tell them you've got plans, you'll be promoting, you want them to come back, etc...

How does a forum have almost 1,000 members but only 2,000 posts?

It may be time for a change, I do like Ryans idea but sometimes members lose interest in a forum for a reason. Try making a poll about what members would like to see and then send out a mass emailer asking for their input. And Im curious aswell if thats a typo with only 2000 posts but 1000 members...

Lay the forum on it's back. Tilt the header up. Look closely for any sign of life. If none proceed to re-design 5 times. If still no sign of life. Firmly and quickly re-design the body. Repeat twice. If no sign of life still, you tried your best but there's nothing you can do.

(Sorry for the sarcastic response... I'll post a real one later tonight)

Like pretty much everyone else said, add a whole bunch of new features, and get together 5 or 6 people and get everything active looking, then send out a mass E-Mail.
