Traffic to Members Conversion Rate?

Just wondering, what are your UV (unique visits) to registered members conversion rate? Mine is absolutely awful at less than 1% . Let's see if the new design and additions I've just implanted will help...

Thank You,
Donny

We have experianced conversions in the range of 0.2% on fairly new forums to around 9% one month on a fairly busy forum.

how are you measuring it? all traffic or just new traffic. if you use google analytics you can see the percentage of new visits to registrations. it may be better than what it seems if you are using your returning traffic and new traffic.

It really depends on who you are marketing to i think. Sites like AF which market to web savvy users i think it is harder to get registrations than from sites that cater to regular users.

One thing I think a lot of people forget is it doesn't take users or registrations for most of our sites to be successful. If you're site is just a forum, registrations are important for posting purposes but if your site is a content driven site, the user registration doesn't mean as much.

For example, my political site's traffic has increased HUGE past couple days with our Candidate Platforms section of the site but no new registrations. Does this bother me? Not at all. I guess it just depends on what your site is.

Another example, AF doesn't need new members to be successful. There's so much content on here, users could lurk and get all the info they need for the most part.

yea i guess it really depends on how you are measuring success. Some sites may measure it in registrations because that generally leads to more user participation, user loyalty, blah blah blah.

I think it is mad important to have a business plan when you are starting out to determine what your success level is. On some of our sites we want tons of free registrations so we can get e-mail addresses to keep users coming back or to send them newsletters, sometimes the revenue model is based on paid subscriptions which require free registrations. other times when your rev model is just advertising it may not matter if people are registering or not just visiting.

I might have to take a look at this: Google Analytics Registration Goal Plugin - vBulletin.org Forum - it's a vB plugin that lets you use Google Analytics to see where your registrations are coming from

Put in a hidden URL referral field that logs the users URL they came from when registering... works good!

It would vary for each forum. Bama gave me the idea one day and it absolutely great. I built in a admin control panel area to view the results as well.

It would require a hidden input that is filled by the URL referrer and submitted to the DB as an entry in the user profile.

Building the Admin User Interface is more difficult.
