MySpace Promotion

All the latest rage seems to be MySpace...maybe not ALL of it, but MySpace promotion is a big things these days. I'll be honest...I don't know much about it as far as techniques go...but has anybody ever done or seen MySpace promotion? I've heard about it bringing a lot of guests and then members to your forums, but I just don't see how you can target individuals...I figure MySpace promotion is only good for certain subjects? Not like forum owners...I mean, how many MySpace users are also forum owners? I don't know, it cant be a large percentage...

If you know anything about this kind of promotion, let us know...do you just create your own profile with a link...or do you post comments in other profiles with a link....get existing members to put your link in their profile? I'm sure it's a combination of these things...but I'd kinda just like to fully understand how these MySpace promoters go about doing things

I've been using MySpace ONLY untill recently.
I hit 72 members online my debate forum last night, but none of them signed up.
MySpace promoting works if your site fits the MySpace audience.

EDIT: This goes to angisson

Yeah, I actually thought of your forums when I was creating this thread...MySpace is obviously used most by the younger crowd...being that your forums are targetted at teens, it's probably a perfect place to promote for you

That also touches on what you said, ltn1dr...I just dont think it would work for everybody, but for those who it does work for, I imagine it's pretty successful

yes you are right... it is for the younger "group" (yea i nkow older ppl use it... but 85 % is teens and young adults )

the only reason i don't use it very often (MySpace) is b/c it is so dam slow for me... (and i have DSL)

so i tend just to go to faster sites...and get a lot more links out that way

I haven't checked out MySpace but if I'm not mistaken, isn't it very similar to LiveJournal.com? LiveJournal allows you to create a place of your own to post pretty much whatever you want. Very similar to a blog but for those without the domain, hosting, etc.

I'd say that MySpace and LiveJournal are more common than you think. I just checked out both further and here's what I gathered from each site:

MySpace
Quote:
Creating a profile in MySpace is fast, fun, and easy. You can disclose as much or as little information about yourself as you want. MySpace will always keep your personal information private and confidential. We will only show what you choose to share. You can even post pictures of yourself to add to the fun - ALL FREE!

Start viewing your friends' profiles. Learn their interests, read their online journals, and view their pictures. Browse through everyone's "Friends List" and see whom you are connected to. You'll be amazed at all the interesting people you are associated with through networks of mutual friends!

MySpace lets you share photos, journals, and interests with your growing network of mutual friends.
LiveJournal
Quote:
LiveJournal is a simple-to-use communication tool that enables you to express yourself and connect with friends online. You can use LiveJournal in many different ways: as a private journal, a blog, a social network and much more.

As far as I know, LiveJournal is more of a blog/journal type thing...MySpace is more of a profile, photo album type thing. MySpace is also a bit larger/more populer than LiveJournal...I don't know a whole lot about either, but I would imagine that promotion through MySpace would be easier and more effective because it seems like the "friend" aspect and large social networks are more important - so more people would see your link.
