Banner Exchange program

Not sure if this is the relevant board, its for a query about whether anyone has tried this type of banner exchange and what their views were off it. I believe its for UK websites but may have an international version.

UK Banner Exchange Website Promotion Marketing

Basically you stick a banner HTML on your site, for every 10 times you show a banner on your web pages, your banner is shown 8 times on other UKBanners member sites.
They even have a banner creator for you (although I felt it was a very bog standard desperate banner if you used it.)

I just wondered if anyone had experience with this and whether it had gained any results, because it is free and the idea of sticking a contantly updating small banner on my site, in exchange for my site appearing on hundreds if not thousands of other websites in exchange seemed too good to be true?

Recently discovered they also offer a USA banner programme and a European banner programme too.

I've used a couple of gaming related banner exchanges and you do get some traffic from it although the CTR for my banners was very low, i.e. 0.03%. But it's traffic and if you have spare space for a banner it could work for you.

Well I signed up and so far so good. Here is a review of whats happened.

I used a default basic banner to test out the site. Approval of the banner took the weekend so i am guessing office hours.
What they do is approve it and send you the HTML code to stick in your website via an Email.

The stats page is realtime data rather than uploaded, so everytime you refresh the page it lets you know how many impressions of other peoples banner placed on YOUR site, how many exposures of your banner on OTHER peoples sites. And it also shows Click Throughs and Click Ratios. There are daily and weekly graphs as well as options to set up 99 pages so that you know which pages of your site is achieving the most impressions etc. All statistics are recorded but you can reset them at anytime with a click of a button if you want to do log how well a new banner achieves.

So far in 6 hours I have achieved 700 impressions with 530 exposures sent out and another 30 yet to be sent out in the "pending to be sent out" section. Unfortunately no click thrus yet but I have changed the banner to a flashing eye catching one and awaiting approval now I know what its about, so will see if that fairs better. You can upload a new banner very easily as often as you want (they recommend changing it every few weeks for best exposure) but does require approval each time (upto 2 days).

At first I thought.... yeah, im advertising other sites but am i getting mine shown, and I managed to find another site that was using the same banner system so I sat for around an hour constantly refreshing their website and with big smiles on my face I eventually saw my banner displayed for 30 seconds. So as long as you make it eyecatching and stand out from the crowd it DOES get shown on other websites it appears.

When advertising you can target particular catergories of sites (gaming, music, art, etc) picking and choosing which ones, or just go for ALL like I have done.

Banners have to be 468x60 when your designing one and a constrictive size of 15.5Kb (not easy when doing GIF banners).

Finally if anyone is interested in the USA version by the same company.... its UK Banner - Internet Marketing + Website Promotion - Internet Advertising but for some reason they are advertising UK all over the US Banners webpage so whether you really are targeting USA or whether its just all bundled together (bit sneaky of them) then I dont know.

Hope this review has been helpful to anyone wanting to do some easy free advertising and get their website banner splashed across websites all over the internet.
At the end of the day, if my Signature has just made you stare at it and read it.... then imagine what it will do on a (claimed) 30,000 other websites.

Well I have been running it for 7 days now and I can report that the banner was shown a fraction under 16,000 times and received 11 click thrus giving a click through ratio of 0.07%

In the meantime I have tried several other banner programs such as this, all of which seemed to be dead exchanges where they failed to approve a single banner in over 7 days. So have removed them. The only one that did indeed approve my banner was exchangebanners (i believe its called) and then i noted that a large portion of my banner exposures were being wasted on my OWN website, and that out of 3 clicks in 2 days, 1 of the clicks was actually from my own website by a curious user wondering about seeing our own banner displayed. So I have removed them too as they were a 6:10 ratio and that was greater reduced as most of my exposures were being advertised to my own audience!!!

So for now Bannersuk are the only banner exchange that i have had any reasonable exposure with and although only average 1 click through per day, it is still giving brand awareness. And although it says 30,000 websites, due to the nature of the registration username I believe the true number of websites to be around 680. Which isnt too bad for a starting out site.
