Where to advertise?

I run a forum for people suffering with phobias and would just like a few suggestions for searching prospective members to the forum. Of course almost everyone has a fear or phobia but not all requires help and advice as it doesn't affect their life but where would you think would be the best places to target for advertising.

That is quite a difficult topic to target. I would always carry out the initial steps of advertising in signatures and just hinting to people that the place exists.

A contest is always a good way to get some initial traffic. I think the best way for your forum would be through word of mouth. Tell your friends, or have rewards for invites. I think it would prove a good method.

Fark has a good place where you can get classified for 50 bucks for a week. Got over a couple thousand hits. I'm wondering where you can get more deals like that.

I allow banners and links in my sig lines to anywhere. People with conditions you stated are everywhere and cannot be specifically targeted. The best treatment for a Phoebia is to stay away from what's scaring the hell out of you.

I'm a new site designed for sellers in the auction site marketplace arena. I get some traffic but not much. 50 to 250 page views a day. You can drop some links and banners in your sigs on my site. That's what I do to advertise.

I'm going to make up a banner for AdminFusion and put it on my site. This is a great forum.

i think you should target blogs and forums of similar niche. Since the topic is very rare i would recommend you go for CPA rather than CPC to save your wallet

free press release sites seem to work for me, but its ironic since we are a press releasing site that is just starting out

You are doing some different job. I would like to suggest you to advertise in medical related forums, where you can get good exposure for your information. I think you could use some psychology related sites too.

I have a silly site called 'Frights'. Even though it's not too serious there's a phobias section.

I have a fear of cluster of tiny holes.. I can't remember what it's called but I get all nauseated when I see them..
