| I've used a number of ways to advertise including flyers. But I've found one of the best ways is good of mouth. I've included little flyers in letters that I've written and I watched my traffic increase. Another way I used was submitting to smaller search engines. That seemed to work as well to increase my traffic.

Join Date: Nov 2005 Posts: 518 | I have much confidence in word of mouth. Right now I have a little personal gag order on all my friends that are most of the users in my site till I have most of the settings and design sorted out. Then they can start to invite more people.

Join Date: Aug 2005 Posts: 1,741 | Signatures are definitely a good method provided you've got a good reputation on the sites where you'll be doing promotion of your board. Equally good is the website field in forum profiles. Link and banner exchanges are decent options as well. Link Dumps and site reviews get the name out too. Forum Incubator is good too! Word of mouth is nice, but relies on good members. If you've got money, contests or ad purchasing are also good options. | ||||

| A few 'different' ways to promote a growing community create a quiz and add the url onto it. Submitting the quiz to sites such as www.i-am-bored.com gets great exposure, also posting them on other forums is a good way to participate as a member on that community whilst promoting. See my quizzes here http://www.greatestjournal.com/quiz.bml look how many times these quizzes are taken  Tip- Be as subtle as possible. Another way is email roulette http://www.plinko.net/roulette/faq.asp again don't just spam peoples inboxes, work your url into a witty introduction... sell yourself as well as your community *The above is mainly for a general community

| i have design forum, so i have a link in my sig. but the best way is tutorials. making tutorial, giving ur forum link at the end and posting on different forums. if it cool and uniq tut u can get hundrets of visit in a week

| I've found a new way to get traffic you are targeting. It's via the images on the forum. I have a section devoted to Robbie Williams and there's a wallpaper thread. By naming the wallpapers robbie williams.jpeg etc it is getting them listed on google searches in the image section. On these wallpapers is the forums url... bringing traffic  Getting members to put flyers in university/school/college pc lounges is also fruitful. I've around 20 active members from one college alone Be imaginative
