POLL: Info Bar, Good OR Bad - What's your opinion?

Re: The Infamous "Info Bar" Thread haha:
"Join our Forum" Bar

Just thought I'd start a poll about this just to see the range of opinions.
I have implemented the "info bar" on my new forum & just wondering: Good idea OR Bad idea -------> What's your opinion?

This is kinda important question for me, as this is my 1st forum and I'm kinda just learning the ropes of being a Webmistress. ALSO because my forum is less than a month old - I want to be in the business of attracting members, as opposed to the repelling

So what's your opinion?

No, no, no, no no!!!! It looks desperate that you have to do that to try and get new users. I'm all for little boxes on the page saying would you like to register? but the info bar must go.

Got to admit, I've never noticed it before it was mentioned on here then found it on a couple of sites. I'm so used to it being there for other things that I don't read it unless I'm wanting to approve a download that it's blocking. But that's just me.

I have it and I think it's a waste. As for your site, PoetJC... I think it takes away from the soothing browns.

I used it on SprintUsers.com and still do. It does pull in extra registrations on my board, no doubt. That is a good thing - I did remove the sound with it however.

Oooo... the sound! I hate the damn "bleep" people use.

I used to check out a forum as a lurker.... I quit visiting it because of the sound.

I don't think I gave my $0.02 in the other thread....so I will here....While it might help to bring in new members, I don't think it's worth it...to me, the bars are terribly distracting. I associate that bar with a broken computer...a virus...a warning message...a pop-up....something...but definitely not "You haven't joined yet! "

I just think that it's tacky

I agree with Ryan.

I also see is distracting.

And to me it also "tells me" that my Google tool bar is blocking some kind of "pop-up" and I will just close the browser, Even without reading it.
