Hi all,
I have just recently opened a new forum and I am having trouble getting new members!
I have already created some contests and I will be adding more contests with time!
What else can be done? The forum has been only a few days, but I was expecting to have 1 or 2 new members per day...
So what do you guys think?

I'd say do lots of what you're doing now: Getting active in other communities and spreading that nice little signature link around.

Word of mouth and leaving a sig trail is a good start. It's something I need to do myself.

Definitely a sig trail...I try to post good, quality posts in as many webmaster forums as I can. It's the most effective, free way to get new members...the better your posts are, the more inclined visitors are to look at your sig and say "hmmm...I bet this guy has a good website" Also, if the forums allow it, be sure to advertise your site in an appropriate section...most of the time, people will not look at your sig, but if you make a thread dedicated to your site...they are bound to stumble across your link

Submit your site to directories. This is not a form of immediate traffic, but in the long run it will help a lot.

Exchange links with other, SIMILAR forums.

Perhaps add something to the top of your page that welcomes guests, tells them a little about your site, and shows them how to join (like you see here)...If you really put the registration form in the guests face, it's hard for the to play the "lazy card"

just a few ideas...these ideas could go on and on for days, there is always something else to do to get new members

While promoting the forums is crucial, there is another aspect you need to take care off: try to to have a constant flow of topics.

I have seen so many forums who are trying to get of ground and the admins are spengin a hugea deal of time and money promoting, but which are baren. Default themes should be changed and forums made unique. There should be at least 200-500 threads there to help people start posting in the forums. Try to have a 30-50 new threads a day regimen for some days and together with promotion it should work.
