Hi, I am new to the forum and just want to suggest people my techniques. I just started my forum exactly four days ago, and it has already 90 members. Now to me I think that is just a little, but maybe to some of you thats a lot. Here are my techniques:

1. If you play any games that have seperate channels to meet and chat in, its good to advertise your forum there.

2. IRC, Internet Relay Chat. If you use IRC and know many networks and people, this is a good place to advertise.

3. Advertise your forum in public chatrooms in instant messengers.

4. Put the link to your forum in your signature and be active in a forum or section of the forum that is similar to yours. So people will know you are capable of providing posts and information. For example, my forum is about proxies. I post my proxy lists in other proxy sites/forums and post an ad below, "Get more proxies at my site". Becareful though, some admins might not agree with this.

5. Use google or any search engine and look up "advertise your forum for free" and many results will show, just go through the main ones. Thats how I got to this site, by the way.

6. Since my forum is a free hosted forum, I advertised my forum in the free hoster's forum.

7. Trade with other forum admins in post exchanges.

Numbers 1-3 are very interesting...I've heard people talk about this before, but have never really had the idea that it would be successful...What do you do, go in these chat rooms and say "Come visit my forums here - you can do blah blah blah for free!" ...It just doesn't seem like that would work for me...and maybe borderline spam? Where do you find these IRC channels and/or AIM/yahoo chat rooms? Some links would be great

Number 4 is one of the methods we use most at AdminFusion....it takes a lot of time and effort, but if you are sure to provide quality posts, it will pay off in the long run. As you said, be careful though - always be sure to check the rules of every forum before you start posting with your website in your signature.

Lastly, #5...the google search - I'd just like to know the exact terms you searched in google to find us - That's so great to hear that you found us in google, and I'd like to know what term did it for you so that we can market more towards that particular term

Well, I am not really sure where I found your site, but all I know it was from googling. I don't thing your site was actually on the google results but in links in a site that was in the google result. As for where to advertise on IRC,AIM, and yahoo or MSN .. there isn't a channel designated for advertising ( sometimes there are ), but you just got to know people and advertise your forum to them. I think IRC is the easiet way. Go to www.searchirc.com for a few big networks.

ProxyFrenzy Chat is my best friend (long with google) that is how i get the word around, as long u don't spam than its a good tool
