Do blogs generate more revenue than forums?

Has anyone had more success generating revenue with blogs than with forums? If so, how much more did you make from your blog than one of your forums? I recently created my own blog about a week or two ago - and the earnings are rpetty good and will probably surpass my forum's earnings if I can get more traffic to it.

So, which one do you think generates more revenue? Blogs or forums?

I think it would depend on the type of blog. Either way you have to get people to visit one or the other. With a blog users don't have to register so it may result in more people coming because they can just read and comment.

Well I think either can be a good earner. I think forums require more work to monetize than blogs but they can still be very profitable.

easier to get content on a forum. you don't write it, for the most part the members do, and as always "content is king" so there you go

harder to monetize a forum? sure, but there is more real estate to place ads on, and many more pages, etc.

bottom line though, you can make money on anything online, just gotta be good at it (i still need lots of practice )

I guess I get that from the fact that CTR is notoriously low on forums compared to other sites (in general) and CPM networks don't like forums unless you have a content site to go along with it. Plus I think it would be a lot easier to just write a bunch of blog posts than it is to work on getting members and getting those members to post. That said, forums are still my main interest.

Blogs are much easier to start and monetize. If you're looking for short-term earnings, blogs are much better than forums, because you can create a blog, make some entries, and almost instantly attract visitors and readers.

Forums are harder to get started and keep going steady, but once you do, they tend to have better long-term earnings than blogs. Forums have more potential in the long run, but it is much MUCH harder to get a forum to the point of being a good money-maker than it is to get a blog there.

I've made it where I have both on my sites: Blogs and Forums and cover both sides.

Both have merits and both have earnings types that belong in a portfolio of sites. Blogs are also good for feeding content into your forums - if you own both a blog and forum on the same subject matter you can cross them and appeal to two crowds.

Blogs dont take long to make revenue because they are easy to set up and make new entries, But forums would take alot longer but if the forum becomes a success then i think that forums would make you alot more in the long term.

Spot on, also generally blogs are easier to SEO than forums and it seems Search Engines love blogs more than forums though I do take pride in the fact that my forum ranks higher in few long tail searches then few major blog in the same niche!
